    Love my rice cooker

Love my rice cooker. I’ve always just cooked on the stove but a friend of mine told me how much she loves hers so I thought I’d try. So glad I did

    Great rice cooker

I waffled on buying this for years, literally 4 years because I’m cheap and I wasn’t sure it would be worth it.. I didn’t want another trendy appliance that wasn’t getting used and took up counter space.
I wish I had bought this years ago.
It works perfectly, takes up minimal space and is easy to use/clean.
So much better than over cooked mushy rice or undercooked crunchy rice from instapot or stove top.
I bought the 5.5 cup for a family of 6. It was enough for 6 servings and a lunch.
Probably I would rather the bigger one as I feed a lot of people, but it cooks quickly enough that it’s not a big deal if I need to make more.
I cook basmati which is calculated differently.
Firstly the 5.5 cups aren’t actually cups, they are 3/4 cup. So 5.5 cups is actually 4 and a bit cups.
Then with the four cups it is further reduced if you cook a long grain like jasmine or basmati.

Long story short, the 5.5 actually only cooks 3cups basmati/jasmine.
It’s easy to use and I’m happy with it, but I assumed the 5.5 cups was all rice, not just short grain/sushi.
Also didn’t realize the “cups” are not in fact cups.

Even with that, I still live this and it will hopefully get many years of use. For a smaller family 5.5 is great. Bigger family, probably get the 10 cup.

It will upgrade your usual rice

I usually buy the cheap rice cooker which would last me between 1-3 years and then I search for a good one and this brand pop up. When I read the reviews, I'm like "Rice is rice" "this is too expensive" but I decided to give it a try after reading a lot of great reviews. After trying it for awhile, pros are better rice. We eat rice every single day and we really did notice the difference after switching, the pot inside is sturdy. One time we made rice and left it in a container in the fridge and it was still soft even after a couple of days. Cons would be that it takes a little more time to cook rice than our usual rice cooker but the quality of the output is worth the wait. Glad that I purchased this. I'm hoping it last us longer.

The last rice cooker you'll ever buy, probably

Purchased in June 2016, used at least weekly since then (often 3-5 times a week)

Before I say anything else, a note about cooking rice – RINSE YOUR RICE, PEOPLE. IT'S IN THE DIRECTIONS AND IT'S CRUCIAL FOR GOOD RICE.

    Fit & Finish:

    – Despite the shell being mostly plastic, this rice cooker feels a bit luxe and everything is nice and tight. The super shiny plastic is extremely easy to wipe down whenever it gets dirty.

    – The retractable power cord is an amazing feature, such a creature comfort. It works just like it did when we got it, albeit slightly slower now. I've never had a problem with getting it to go in the direction I needed.

    – The lid and hinge mech is solid and easy to use, just one big button to release. An interesting thing to note is the hinge only opens just beyond far enough for the rice pan to be insertable into the machine, so if it didn't pop up all the way and your hands are full, you'll need to use an elbow to nudge it the rest of the way open. My solution is to just pop it open and make sure it's fully open before I start doing anything else.

    – The handle is light and plastic but has not cracked at any point, not even the joints. This was something I was worried about since the unit feels like it could be an issue, but I kinda swing this thing around when moving it in/out of my pantry, and it's still totally solid.

    Product in use:

    – The user interface (buttons and screen) is intuitive, easy to use, and there are no seams between the buttons for any water ingress. The buttons on my unit haven't even started to wear down after 7 years.

    – As far as functions go, I only really ever use the White or Quick rice features – I don't eat brown rice at home, and haven't felt the need to use any of the other ones. I've also never used the timer feature as I am not the best planner. But this thing sure does make the most perfectly cooked rice every single time. It's honestly kind of rough having such high quality, easy to cook, white rice at home, and then go out to eat and the rice you're eating is just mushy and overcooked or gummy. This thing spoils you.
    — A note about Quick Rice – I have found that the quicker cook time /can/ lead to slightly tackier/gummier rice if you open the lid as soon as the cycle ends. I would give it a few extra minutes to steam out before opening and the rice will be almost as perfect as the regular cycle.

    – Volume of rice cooked – I don't think I have ever maxed this thing out, but I have gotten close. What is MORE impressive, is that I can cook 1 single 'cup'** (**OF THE CUP THEY GIVE YOU TO MEASURE THAT CORRESPONDS TO THE LINES IN THE RICE PAN, WHICH IS ACTUALLY 3/4 CUP) of rice and it comes out just as perfect as if I cooked rice for 6 people. This amount of rice has never been short of enough for one meal for two adults. On quick rice, this amount cooks in like…15 minutes? And on White it'll start at 50, but will actually skip a few and be done in 25min or so.

    Summary:

I thought for sure that $130 (at my time of purchase) was a bit overkill for a rice cooker, but I will 1000% buy another one of these whenever my current unit dies, if that ever happens. I thought 7 years was a good run (< $20/year for perfect rice at home?!) so any more time after this is just a big bonus.

    10/10, and 10/10 with rice.

    Great, high quality rice cooker

If you're a family that needs rice on a daily basis but you're trying not to destroy your bank account with one of those really high end models and simultaneously trying to do better than the basic no-frills model, this one might be for you. We need the basic no-frills one from Zojirushi and the weight mechanism at the bottom started to glitch over time. This is a known issue, and you can remedy it by stacking coins on it until it works normally again, but we opted instead to buy this one. Ultimately we're happy we did, because this model is nicer, has more features, works better, has lasted much longer, and is overall worth the upcharge for the quality improvements. Unlike the budget model, this one has no faltered or failed in any way and continues to function admirably, but more importantly has a special adaptability where it will adjust to the amount of water you put into it within a reasonable degree. So if you put in a little too much water (it happens), it will still somehow magically make perfect rice. I have no idea how this works, but they call it some wild overly long name and I'm glad it comes as a feature on these higher end models because it lets me be sloppy with my measurements.

    Great rice cooker!

Love this rice cooker! It's super easy to use. The rice comes out perfectly cooked every time. The non -stick pot makes cleaning a breeze, and I also like the keep-warm function, which keeps the rice ready to eat for hours. Definitely a must-have for anyone who eats rice regularly!

What's a Zojirushi? It's the key to the rice you've always dreamed of making.

I bought this "used" in like-new condition and the box was the only thing that even hinted that this wasn't brand spanking new. This saved me a considerable amount of money over brand new. I've since put many miles on it as it gets used several times a week and it's still like new. It cooks perfect rice every single time. This is a con of sorts because many places we go to eat serve inferior rice and that takes away from the dining experience. It's so simple to use, a child could do it. All the settings work fantastic. Brown and wild rice cook amazingly using the brown rice setting. Even the quick setting for white rice is really good, although it rarely gets used in our home. Porridge is a food I'd never had until this device, but it's a great money saver and babies love it. The Porridge setting can be used to make steel cut oatmeal which is amazing. The steamer function is really handy for small meals but the basket has very limited capacity. I've even baked a cake using that setting. It came out really good but the bottom had just the faintest hint of burnt for some reason. It looked perfect though. This seems more suited to those without an actual oven or cake pans, although it probably saves a bunch of electricity. The recipe size was weird and required me to make some adjustments in quantity when preparing the boxed cake mix so maybe I messed up somewhere and burnt taste was a result. I could go on about other recipes but just know that this device makes it difficult to mess up. Cleanup is easy with a nonstick pot and spatula. The lid cleans easily too. I love the retractable cord. The timer function is great to get breakfast ready the night before or have hot rice ready when you get home from work. This appliance will keep rice warm for ridiculous amounts of time. Just add a bit of water every 8 or 10 hours as needed. The design of the unit is smart and elegant. The little songs it plays are cute, but you can turn them off if you're not into that sort of thing. If you don't already know, Zojirushi is the standard by which all other rice cookers are measured, and this is a mid-high range model in their lineup. The price is justified in my opinion, and if I somehow lost mine today, I would go buy another tomorrow, although I'd go a size up from the 5.5 cup due to increased rice consumption as well as a growing family.
